A rare and fine quality example of an English pottery Bacchus jug from the Staffordshire Potters in the 18th century. The jug has exceptional detail to modelling and is adorned with figures of a fish, lion's head,an owl, a monkey, a fawn pipe player and Baccus in person. The glaze is perhaps the best I have ever seen on one of these very rare and novel jugs from the British Potters. Possibly from the Ralph Wood workshops in Burslem Satffordshire.
