This is an exceptional, rare, and fine quality Astbury Whieldon pottery figure of a well-dressed gentleman in fine clothes standing with a resting rifle. The figure is decorated in the typical Astbury-Whieldon style with brown clay and a creamware body decorated with soft greens and brown underglaze. Previously, an unrecorded example.      

Dimensions: 6.75 inches high

Current Condition: Restored at the neck and chip at the back of the base by Ceramic Conservators to the British Royal Family.

Provenance: Private collection Somerset and Avon

Literature: page 46 figure ref 60 A Guide to British Pottery (British Museum )published 1904 illustrates an Astbury-Whieldon figure with identical modelling of the rifle and other similarities.
