Description
Antique 18th century pottery vase and cover decorated with surface agateware.
The vase is modeled with a detachable white basalt plinth which is impressed WEDGWOOD.
Amphora shaped with an ovoid body and husk pattern handles which terminate at their lower attachement in a classical mask. The
vase is a classic early piece of Wegwood’s work, dates to circa 1770/80 period.
Fortunately the vase is complete with its original domed cover.
Research with the Wedgewood Museum reveals that they do not have this version in their massive inventory which underlines the rarity of this piece. An example is located in the V & A London.
