A fine quality and rare pearlware jug well decorated with two panels depicting a "Cock Fighting Scene". The panel below the spout shows a drinking and smoking scene typical of the period. The painting is exceptional and the jug is enhanced with a wide yellow coloured band around the body. Note...cock fighting is one of the oldest spectator"sports" with a history spanning 5000 years. Re; image of Roman mosaic.Cock fighting was banned in England in 1835.
