Antique Staffordshire pottery figure of a tiger with bocage from the Dale Pottery .

Ref: 40434 Categories: ,

£4400

Dated: 1810 to 1820 Staffordshire England

A very rare antique Staffordshire pottery figure of a prowling tiger with bocage. The figure is well modeled with good strong enamels. Interestingly, the pottery figure left the John Dale pottery workshops minus a leg. This has been corrected with a post-production enhancement. The figure of this ferocious feline is executed in a naive fashion, adding a touch of comedy to the appeal of the piece. The John Dale Pottery was located in Burslem, Staffordshire. There is scant knowledge of John personally apart from the date of his marriage in 1825.

Dimensions: 8.5 inches high, 8 inches wide

Current Condition: Restored at tail, tree branch with bocage and at the front leg.

Provenance: Private Collection Eire.
