Antique pottery documentary pearlware pitcher for William Botty a Bolton Miller late 18th century

Ref: 6886 Categories: , ,

£1750

Dated: 1785 to 1795 Yorkshire or Staffordshire England

The pottery pearlware glazed pitcher has hand-painted color enamel decoration and was made as a commemorative piece with the notation ' Wm Botty' Bolton Miller but not over honest. Bolton is a town located in the North West of England. The term " but not over honest" is probably a comical statement aimed at William and is one of the most unusual terms I have seen on a documentary piece. The reverse of the jug features a well-painted bouquet of flowers and a butterfly.

Current Condition: There is some chipping at the rim of the spout, slight staining, and some historical wear commensurate with age; otherwise in good order with no restoration.
