Dated: 1815 English county of Staffordshire

This large pottery pearlware glazed figure oblong base group depicts a reddish-colored bull baited by a terrier dog. A male figure brandishes a stick, beckoning watchers to place their wagers. The detail on this group and modeling of the figures is an exceptionally vibrant and rare example of its type. The figure was made at the Staffordshire potteries in the early 19th century. Bull baiting was a popular "sport" until banned in Britain in 1835.

Dimensions: 9.5 inches high 13 inches long

Current Condition: Restored ears, horns, rope at the neck, male right arm, stick, and dog replaced. This quality work was completed by the ceramic restorers to the British Royal Family.
