A fine antique early English pottery water jug in saltglaze stoneware. The jug is very finely potted and is decorated with applied trailing leaves,stems and flowers.The feet feature a mask head which turns this utilitarian jug into a stylish and sophisticated piece no doubt influenced by the silver shapes in vogue in the 18th century.The pitcher is a classic piece from the mid 18th century , the early pioneering days of the Staffordshire potteries.
