Antique pottery commemorative blue edged plate with The Duke of York riding on horseback in full military uniform. The military encampment is also shown in the background. The central panel is decorated with an underglaze print with underglaze Pratt colors. The plate may commemorate the Dukes victory at over the French at Valenciennes or merely be a patriotic expression of the period.

Diameter: 9 inches

Current Condition: Fine unrestored condition.

Literature: John May attributes this plate to the Liverpool Pottery in his book Commemorative Pottery 1780-1900. However, there is no supporting evidence to suggest this and the work could also be from one of the Staffordshire or possibly Yorkshire potters.
