Made in the mid-17th century, this stoneware Bellarmine or Bartmann is salt-glazed and features an intriguing bearded head at the neck. The alchemy of the firing process has produced this unique, mysterious, compelling image. The jug has a medallion cartouch in the form of an eight-petalled flower head.
