This monumental-sized pottery canary yellow glazed teapot was possibly intended as an exhibition piece, perhaps a special commission. Several images are entered to provide a good indication of scale. The pot is decorated on one side with a sailing ship below the delightful verse, " May we always have good tea bread and butter plenty. Sugar store and water more to fill this pot when empty.". There is also an engaging verse under the ship: " Pray Ladies all do make so free And tell us how you like your tea. Come fill your cups and let them move around that we may continue in sisterly love". The reverse of the teapot is hand-decorated, showing a basket with a display of flowers standing on a table. This magnificent and remarkable pot is in good condition, with a chip left unrestored at the rim of the lid.
