9This Staffordshire pottery pearlware glazed figure shows the celebrated mathematician and scientist Sir Isaac Newton standing against a globe while holding a telescope. A banner below the globe rests on two large books with the date 1680; this relates to Newton's sighting by a telescope of the comet C/1680 V1, also called the Great Comet of the 17th century. The figure is imposing with striking modeling and good quality decoration colored enamels, a classic from the Ralph Wood Pottery.

Dimensions: 12 inches high

Current Condition: Restored at the neck, tip of nose, right arm, hand and telescope.
