Early English earthenware delftware geometric decorated dish circa 1630-40 London

The rare dish is a very early example of English delftware and is attributed to the Pickleherring Quay delftworks at Southwark, London. It is decorated in blue and white with a central star motif bordered by flowers and leaves in the traditional Wan Li style. The dish has some glaze loss at the rim but is otherwise in good condition. NOTE: Fragments of this ware were found in profusion at the Pickleherring Quay pottery site, which was opposite the Tower of London. Jonathan Horne noted that a similar charger was found in a rubbish pit at the Kingsmill Plantation in James City County, Virginia, having been taken there by the early settlers.

Current Condition: It is in good condition some loss at the glaze at the rim, commensurate with age.
