Description
A pottery Phrenology bust inkwell impressed in the title “By F. Bridges PHRENOLOGY.” The base and inkwell are decorated with the best gold, and the sections of the head are dark grey.
The condition of this piece is exceptional and one of the best examples of its type. Bridges authored and published Phrenology Made Practical.
A similar model is located in the Science Museum in London, England.
NOTE;
Phrenology is the study of the shape of the skull, which was thought to correlate with specific localized brain functions. It remained popular in Europe and America throughout the 19th century but was shown to be unfounded by Francois Magendie around 1843.
