An exceptionally rare English pottery whistle in the form of a seated monkey dating from the 18th century. The colored glazes, the modeling, and the unglazed body under the hollow base point to a Ralph Wood of Burslem Staffordshire attribution. The whistle is in remarkable condition.

Current Condition: Fine unrestored condition

Literature: The Wood Family of Burslem by Frank Falkner plate XV illustrates a similar figure minus the whistle feature.
