Description
The teapot with the original cover is salt-glazed and is modeled in the form of a fine mansion or townhouse. The rectangular body is molded on three sides with the three-story building, one side with a coat of arms above the doorway, whilst the reverse shows a lion rampant above a fleur de Lys with a figure standing in the open doorway. The spout and handle are in the form of a goose with an outstretched hand holding the head. The teapot is an early example and dates to the mid 18th century. The vessel’s diminutive scale indicates the expense of tea, a luxury only to be enjoyed by the wealthy.
