The slipware pottery puzzle jug is profusely decorated in scraffito with tulips, foliage, a bird, and the initials R and J over 1843. The dated initials imply the jug was probably made as a presentation wedding gift. The jug is also inscribed "God save the Queen" and a verse associated with the entertaining wager aspect of the vessel " Fill me up unto the brim and give a coin to a friend ." The jug is in excellent condition and has an exquisite mottled green glaze—one of the best examples of its type made at the Donyatt Pottery Somerset. An assassination attempt was made on Queen Victoria in 1842, which may have prompted the reference to her.
