English pottery figure in Prattware of a rooster with removable head

This early 19th century figure of a rooster is strikingly modeled and well painted in underglaze prattware colors. The head of this perky alert looking bird is detachable.

Dimensions: 8.5 inches high

Current Condition: Unrestored crack at the inner rim of the head which does not show when displayed.

Provenance: Previously with the Seidenberg Gallery New York ( retains their label). Private New York Collection.

Literature: Prattware page 285 by John and Griselda Lewis published by the Antique Collectors Club.
