A rare version of a Lord Rodney commemorative tankard with a pearlware glaze. This quality piece has a relief molded border depicting a flag, cannons, sword and an anchor, the handle is a rope twist and there is much attention to detail such as Rodney's hair, bow, and cravat. The portrait rendition is very striking and is modeled in the round providing good decorative display from every view. Note; Rodney was famous for his victory over the French at the Battle of the Saints in 1782; the final naval battle of the American War of Independence. This piece is a likely commemorative of this event and the esteem felt for him by the British people.
