Description
A fine antique Staffordshire pottery pearlware figure group of The Duke of Wellington.
Several variations were made of the “Iron Duke” and for years the identity of this imposing figure remained a mystery. The appeal of this figure is enhanced with silver and pink luster decoration on the cannon and Wellington’s sash.
Myrna Schkolne (Author of several major Reference works on early Staffordshire Figures) discovered a figure in the Stoke on Trent Museum titled “Duke of Wellington”.
The Duke was a Military hero in Great Britain especially after his victory over the French at Waterloo.
Research indicates that the modeler of this figure was Pierre Stephan who produced other notable heroic figures such as Rodney and Nelson. There is currently a Rodney figure available and illustrated on the web site.
