Description
A fine Yorkshire pottery money box or bank. Named and dated Maria Barker PONTEFRACT 1844.
Interestingly the decorator of the piece mis-calculated the space required to enter the name and consequently adopted a rather fetching solution with the surname Barker. Such boxes were often gifts at Christening time or a birthday to encourage thrift.
This money box is a based on the Wesley Methodist Chapel in the town of Mexborough.
Attrubuted to the Emery Pottery located in Mexborough and closed in 1875.
