Ref: 5212 Categories: ,

£1750

Dated: 1825 Staffordshire England

A rare and whimsical figure group with a bizarre and comical menagerie centered around the triple hollowed tree trunk. The group is painted with flowers and vines with foliage and enamel colours in a very artistic manner whilst the decoration of the various animals and birds is naive...the two comparative styles of decoration add a unique charm. The group of animals in attendance with the weary looking shepherd are a cheeky monkey, two swans ( one modelled up the tree) a goat, lamb nesting bird and a dog. One of the most engaging pieces from the Staffordshire potters.

Current Condition: Some restoration at branch, tip crook, head of bird, goats horns.
