A rare Saltglaze Bear Jug and cover circa 1740.The figure has a slightly waisted cylindrical body with bands of rouletting around a central row of brown dots, a dish is held in the animals outstretched arms. The cover for this figure is a flattened bulbous form with an open cylindrical spout complete with tongue, the details and collar are picked out in brown the same as the waist band. This figure originally produced as a novel item has now , with the passing of time, emerged as a true piece of art from the first half of the 18th century and now stands as a tribute to the early Staffordshire potters art.

Current Condition: Restored top of spout, tail damaged and left unrestored.
