Description
This early 18th-century English earthenware slipware decorated ink pot has four holes, one for ink and three smaller ones for retaining quills.
There is simple naive decoration, notches on the corners, and incised numerals “1. 4. and 7. and diamond shape.” Unusually, the body is made of two-colored clays, a light buff and a reddish brown, over which the dark caramel ground slip is decorated with a chocolate brown, producing an agateware effect.
