This English blue and white delftware plate is exceptionally rare; only one other example is known. The center of the piece is decorated with a galloping horse with a male rider holding a whip. The top rim of the plate bears the name THOS; SMITH; WOOL HOPE 1767. The base rim is decorated with a fence and some bushes. The glaze is a soft, pale blue. Wool Hope is a village in Herefordshire, England.
