Description
This Obadiah Sherratt Staffordshire pottery group shows Doctor Syntax at a Card Party. The piece is finely molded and decorated with quality colored enamels. The oak leaf bocage pearlware glazed group shows the Doctor playing cards with a gentleman seated opposite with a table centered on a rainbow-colored base.
The amusing and socially significant figure was inspired by Rowlandson’s engraving from the third tour of Doctor Syntax, which was published in 1821.
An almost identical figure is located in the Brighton and Hove Museum
