This massive and historically important Herculaneum Liverpool pottery creamware large pitcher is decorated with a moving underglaze black and white transfer image of The Death Of Nelson at Cadiz on October 21st, 1805. Nelson is portrayed lying in his cabin aboard HMS Victory, mortally wounded, attended by three figures. The jug is probably the largestĀ  (12" tall) made of this major event which gripped the nation. The reverse of the pitcher shows a dramatic night scene from the Battle of The Nile, the ship ablaze is the French ship L'Orient. Under the spout of this significant pitcher is an underglaze print of The Farmers Arms with the monogram MR in ornate script.

Current Condition: Good professional restoration the three hairlines at the body and at the rim of the base.
