Dated: 1820 Staffordshire

Antique Staffordshire pottery pearlware pitcher decorated with numerous underglaze transfers relating to the rural sport of bull baiting. The transfer images are very naive and child-like in their representation and render this rare pitcher a wonderful piece of folk art from the early 19th century. Bull Baiting and Bear Baiting was thankfully banned in England in 1835.
