An English pottery Prattware figure of a rural sportsman with a game bird in hand and a gun resting by his legs. The male character is modeled standing on a green mound on a square plinth type base, the piece strongly decorated with Pratt colors. A similar figure is held in the Willett Collection located in the Brighton Museum. NOTE; Pratt Ware is the name associated with relief decorated, underglaze painted creamware and pearlware made from about 1780 to 1835. This light density earthenware was the standard body of the period. The name relates to the Pratt family of potters working in Lane Delph Staffordshire in the late eighteenth century and at Fenton after 1807. The generic term to this type of ware originated because of the existence of two early jugs marked PRATT. Many other potters made it in Staffordshire, Yorkshire, Liverpool, Tyneside, Wearside, Devon, and Scotland.
