Description
This English antique earthenware slipware circular dish is decorated with a dark honey-colored slip on a warm nut brown ground. The dish is ornamented with impressed patterns at the border and rim. The profuse and elaborate slip work is of the highest quality and executed by a skillful potter artist. The large scale and intricate decoration suggest it was made for display. The shape of the dish is a form typical of the late 18th century.
It was probably made in Yorkshire or Staffordshire.
