A typical example from the Donyatt Pottery of a scraffito decorated puzzle jug with coloured glazes iconically related to the Pottery.The puzzle jug has a sailors poem and is dated 1820. Records show that there has been a pottery industry in the Donyatt area since the thirteenth century. There is a collection of typical pieces in the Castle Museum in Taunton, andin the Smithsonian Institute in Washington, U.S.A. The clay for the pots was all dug locally which gives a unique appearance to their wares making them instantly identifiable.
